National Make-A-Will Month: Why Baltimore Families Shouldn’t Wait

Monthly Snippet on Estate Law

Why National Make-a-Will Month Matters

In the back of our minds, most of us know and understand that we should, at some point, have a Will. But life is busy, resources (time and money) can feel limited, and it is often pushed to the back burner. If you find yourself in this situation, know that you are not alone!

It is estimated that only 32% of Americans have a will, though upwards of 64% report that they recognize the importance of having one.

Key Reasons to Create a Will

August is the perfect time to tackle that pesky item on your “to-do” list and start the process for establishing a Will.

Why? A will does lots of important things.

  • It is the mechanism for appointing guardians for minor children.

  • It ensures your hard-earned money and other assets go to the people (or organizations) you intend.

  • It can also be a source of clarity and peace for a grieving family because they don’t have to guess at what you wanted, or worse, watch assets go to those designated by statute instead of the people who make sense based upon your own family dynamic.
