Estate Planning + Probate Connection
Estate planning and probate are closely connected. Understanding how plans are implemented after death allows for more effective planning during life.
Probate is the court-supervised legal process that takes place after someone passes away. It involves identifying and valuing assets, paying debts and taxes, and ultimately transferring property to heirs.
While good estate planning can reduce or simplify probate, most families will encounter it at some point, either for themselves or a loved one.
Maguire Law assists personal representatives and families throughout the probate process, helping them navigate court requirements, deadlines, and fiduciary responsibilities with clarity and care.

In Maryland, a court may appoint a guardian to make decisions on behalf of a minor or an adult who lacks the capacity to do so themselves. Guardianship can involve decisions regarding healthcare, living arrangements, education, and financial management, depending on the individual's needs.
These matters can be emotionally difficult and legally complex, particularly when families are navigating urgent or sensitive circumstances

Civil Litigation & Appeals
While my practice is focused, my experience is broad. Over the course of my career, I have years of hands-on courtroom and appellate experience that inform how I advise clients, evaluate risk, and pursue outcomes.
My background allows me to evaluate cases with a long-term perspective, anticipating how decisions may be reviewed and ensuring that matters are handled carefully from the outset. That perspective is rooted in early appellate training and ongoing appellate work, including clerking on the Appellate Court of Maryland (formerly the Court of Special Appeals) and continued service as a Panel Attorney for the Appellate Division of the Maryland Office of the Public Defender.
How Can Maguire Law Help?
-
Appeals are a specialized area of law that requires precision, strong legal writing, and a deep understanding of how courts evaluate decisions.
Not every case is appropriate for appeal, but when appellate issues arise, informed counsel can make a critical difference.
-
Civil litigation is the legal process for resolving non-criminal disputes between individuals or organizations. In this process, one party, the plaintiff, sues another, the defendant, seeking damages or specific relief. Common issues involved in civil litigation include contract breaches, personal injury, property disputes, and employment conflicts. The goal is to obtain remedies, such as monetary compensation, rather than imposing criminal penalties.
The civil litigation process includes several stages: filing a complaint, engaging in discovery, negotiating settlements, going to trial, and potentially appealing a decision. Throughout this process, lawyers represent their clients to protect their interests.
Clients benefit from counsel who understands both the immediate issue and the broader legal landscape surrounding it.
